We got an average of about 0.5“ of rain yesterday throughout the course. 0.35” of that came in a matter of 10 minutes later yesterday evening.

Luckily the light rain early in the morning helped to wet the surface and assist the soil with accepting the water from the downpour later in the day. When we go a long time with no rainfall, the surrounding desert becomes hydrophobic and heavy rains will “run-off” instead of soaking into the ground. Due to the lighter rain earlier, it helped break the hydrophobicity of the soil, and the golf course took the downpour well. We still had plenty of clean up work to do throughout cart paths and tunnels, but much better than it could have been. Rain is beneficial to the golf course, as it tends to be on the neutral to acidic side of the PH scale. Our soils and water here are very high in PH, and the acidic rain helps to break up the surface tension and release bound up nutrients in the soil, as well as flush salts. The light damage we received from this rain was well worth the benefits the rain brought to the golf course.
