As we end our 3rd week of overseed closure, we are sitting right where we want to be overall. From seed planting to now we are averaging about 3 leaf blades per ryegrass plant, right in the predicted growth pattern of about 1 new leaf blade per week.

Ryegrass is maturing nicely, and will continue to mature for the next several weeks.
We are applying weekly foliar applications of nitrogen to help push the growth of the ryegrass as well.

One issue we face here, which is a continuous battle, is soil conditions and water quality. We have extremely saline water, that is detrimental to turf health when unable to drain. There are several large patches of clay and caliche build up that prevent the water from draining, which results in thinning turf and sometimes dead turf.
We’ve been implementing the use of our deep tine machine, as well as venting to help move water downward and to oxygenate the root zone. This helps, but is not a permanent fix.
